Murrieta Valley Unified School District asked the Board to place a Proposition 39 bond before voters. This type of bond lowers the voter approval threshold from two-thirds to 55%, but only if voters are provided with a clear, detailed Project List that describes exactly how the money will be spent.
The proposed list was so vague that it even stated: “Examples included on this list are not intended to limit the broader types of projects described and authorized by this measure.” Not a single item identified a specific school site.
As a Murrieta Valley USD trustee, I voted against placing this bond on the ballot because it failed to meet the transparency voters expected when they approved Proposition 39. Taxpayers deserve to know exactly where their money is going.
The district is now working on a more detailed Project List for a possible future vote.
